The town of Hluboka nad Vltavou is famous for its charming Hluboka castle, now beautifully illuminated at night. The castle was built in the second half of the 13th century, originally as a royal Gothic castle. In the late 16th century Hluboka was rebuilt in the Renaissance style and in 1721-28 in the Baroque style. Its today’s Neo-Gothic look dates back to the reconstruction in 1841-1871, reconstruction designed by F. Beer and D. Deworetzky.
The art gallery Alsova jihoceska galerie right next to the castle hosts a permanent exhibition of old Dutch masters.
You can also visit the Ohrada hunting lodge, only two kilometers from Hluboka, hosting the world’s oldest museum of hunting. Next to it you will find a local ZOO or enjoy riding in the sports center Vondrov with a new indoor riding ring. On sunny days do not miss the local outdoor swimming complex with two pools, toboggan, slides and whirlpools. You can also swim in the nearby ponds - Bezdrev and Krivonoska. Hluboka and Vltavou also has a large complex of indoor and outdoor tennis courts with polyurethane and clay surfaces. Right by the complex starts an 8-km long cycling trail to Ceske Budejovice. Also close to the complex is a bowling hall and a nine-hole golf course, “driving range�, where you can borrow the necessary equipment and hire a trainer. You can also test your skills on a golf-simulator in Ceske Budejovice. Many ponds in the area are ideal for angling while hunters will appreciate a nearby game preserve.
Only 5 km from the town is the Hosin airport offering sightseeing flights. You can also take a boat ride through romantic passes of the Hnevkovice reservoir.
